Still snowed in...well kind of

Yesterday Ryan was out shoveling snow ALL day. We only have one shovel so I took Samson out and walked around but wasn't able to contribute to the group effort on our court. It was really nice to meet even more neighbors and to see them all working together. Ryan shoveled out the truck and then the neighbors loaded up the back of it and Ryan took the snow away from our area which has no more room for snow. I had a long conversation with one of our neighbors who is retired Army and a DOD civilian who seemed really eager to pass around Ryan's resume while he is deppoyed so that he can find a new job quickly when he gets home. That would be really helpful since he will still have his job when he comes back, but he will have to make the trek to Aberdeen, MD to get to it at least two days a week and that is not our ideal. It's really sad that his job got bracked to MD because while it is his perfect job and his co-workers are great, it's not worth moving two hours from our family.

Last night we made the three mile trek to his boss's house for a Super Bowl party with some of his other co-workers. They are all so funny and so nice. Ryan has only been in this division of the agency for a year and a half but it seems like they have all been friends forever. His boss's parents were there and they were pretty hilarious too. We got to hear some pretty great stories of Jamie growing up and I was once again reminded of my future of gray hairs if I have boys. The co-worker who is expecting twins was there and they are due any day. I am so happy for them. The other co-worker who is deploying got some extra time with his family because of the snow and flights being grounded so that was great to hear. He is also a Saints fan so he got to see his team play a pretty great game before he goes too. I was a little nervous about heading out on the roads and coming back late at night when it could freeze and while they were terrible, thank God for an AWD Subaru and the fact that no one else was on the roads. It was so worth the ride to get out and get to spend some time with his co-workers.

We both have snow days again today and with another storm coming we may be here a while. You won't hear me complaining about that:) As for today, we are staying inside all day since all of the shoveling we can do is done. It's nice not having anything we have to do.

P.S. If you missed church because of the storm, ours posts a video of the sermon online when it has to close. It centers on the wonderful message of forgiveness and a look at why it is so challenging for us to forgive when we are desperate for forgiveness ourselves. Check it out by clicking the next word here or by going to the link for our church to the left.

And last but not least, please keep my college roomate, Alyson, and her husband Chris in your prayers. On Sunday she said goodbye to him for the last time before his deployment. They have only been married 17 months and by the end of this they will have been apart half their marriage. Alykins and I spent most of my college years wondering when we would get the call that Ryan was deploying and here her husband is the one who is going first. She sounded good when I talked to her today. Their faith is going to be what gets them through this as with Ryan and I with our turn coming up. I am glad we can at least be there for each other throughout both of our journeys as Army Wives.
